Why Source Investment Castings from Vietnam?

Vietnam's investment casting industry serves global OEMs in pumps, valves, automotive, and aerospace — with quality systems matching the best Chinese and Indian foundries.

💰

40–60% Lower Cost Than US

Lower labor and energy costs translate directly to lower piece prices. Tooling costs are 60–80% less than US foundries. In-house machining and finishing eliminate subcontracting markups.

🛡️

Zero China Tariffs

Chinese investment castings face 25% Section 301 tariffs. Vietnamese castings enter at standard MFN rates — saving 25–30% on landed cost vs. a comparable Chinese supplier.

Investment Casting FAQ

What is investment casting (lost wax casting)?
Investment casting uses a wax pattern coated in ceramic shell to create near-net-shape metal parts. The wax is melted out ('lost'), and molten metal is poured into the cavity. It produces complex geometries with excellent surface finish and tight tolerances — often eliminating the need for machining.
What materials can you investment cast?
Stainless steels (304, 316, 316L, 17-4PH, CF8M), carbon steels (WCB, 1020, 1045, 8620), alloy steels (4140, 4340), aluminum alloys (A356, A357), copper alloys (C83600, C95800), and superalloys (Inconel 625, 718). Stainless steel accounts for ~60% of our investment casting work.
What tolerances can you achieve?
Standard investment casting tolerances are ±0.1mm for the first 25mm, plus ±0.04mm per additional 25mm (per ISO 8062 CT5-CT7). Surface finish is typically Ra 3.2–6.3µm as-cast. For tighter tolerances, we CNC machine critical features after casting.
What part sizes can you produce?
From 5 grams to 80 kg. Most investment castings are in the 50g–10kg range. Maximum linear dimension up to 600mm. For larger parts, we use shell investment casting with robotic dipping for consistent shell quality.
Can you handle secondary operations?
Yes. Our investment casting partners offer CNC machining, grinding, polishing (mirror finish available), heat treatment (solution annealing, quenching, tempering, aging), NDT (X-ray, MPI, dye penetrant), and surface treatments (passivation, electropolishing, plating).
What's the tooling cost and lead time?
Wax injection dies typically cost $500–$5,000 depending on part complexity and number of cavities. Die lead time is 2–4 weeks. For prototypes (1–20 pieces), we can use 3D-printed wax or SLA patterns — no die needed, 2–3 week turnaround.
How does Vietnam investment casting pricing compare?
Vietnam is 15–25% cheaper than China before tariffs. With China's 25% Section 301 tariffs, the savings reach 40–50%. For stainless steel castings, the gap is even larger because Vietnam sources stainless from domestic Posco and Formosa mills at competitive prices.
What quality certifications do your foundries have?
ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949 (automotive), ISO 13485 (medical), PED 2014/68/EU (pressure equipment), AD 2000 Merkblatt W0 (European pressure), and NADCAP (aerospace). All foundries provide material certs (EN 10204 3.1), chemical analysis, and mechanical test reports.
