Key Certifications to Look For

ISO 9001:2015

Baseline quality management. Every serious factory should have this. Verify the certificate number.

IATF 16949

Automotive quality. If a factory has this, they can make anything — it's the strictest standard.

ISO 13485

Medical devices. Required if you're in medical. Even if you're not, it signals top-tier quality systems.

AS9100D

  • Tooling Ownership Agreement — Explicitly state that all molds, jigs, and fixtures are your property. Include the right to retrieve tooling at any time.
  • Manufacturing Agreement — Cover quality requirements, delivery terms, warranty, and remedies for non-conformance. Include Incoterms (FOB or CIF recommended).
